The Dynamic Duo of Suspenders and Bow Ties

Some things just go together. Peanut butter and jelly, chips and salsa, a piña colada by the pool; you get the idea. There’s certain pairings that simply go-together to create a perfect melody.

If you understand what we are trying to convey, then the next part (along with the title of this blog) should not come as much of a surprise. In the world of accessories, the dynamic duo and ultimate pairing is, of course, suspenders and bow ties. Now, don’t get us wrong here. There are plenty of different ways people choose to style their suspenders; and a lot of it has to do with the reasoning behind wearing them (whether that be an event, casual or just for fun). So, it’s not at all uncommon to see a pair of suspenders being worn with a necktie within an outfit, it’s just a lot more common and almost expected to see a bow tie.

The reasoning behind this classic duo could have stemmed from history in formal and black-tie events. When wearing a traditional tuxedo look, black suspenders and a black bow tie are an absolute must. But, as time and fashion has progressed the commonality of wearing suspenders and a bow tie (in the traditional sense) has really expanded.

Maybe it’s because suspenders are being worn more by both men and women for more than just formal affairs, or maybe it’s just because they complement each other so well. Whichever the reasoning behind this accessorizing combination, it’s a total win in our book.

The suspenders and bow tie combination has been commonly seen being styled at weddings (both formal and casual), other social gatherings (parties, work events, dinners, etc.), in business casual outfits for working environments, and even styled on the runway in fashion shows. Although the combo has been around for years, seeing different twists and spins on the looks makes it feel like a new fashion revelation that is taking off!

People sporting elastic suspenders, on top of a t-shirt or button-up shirt, then pairing it with a knit bow tie adds a new take on a stylish look. Wearing plaid and different patterns to add a pop of color and spruce up any outfit. Whichever way one decides to wear and style their suspender look, we are certain that one way or another these two will always find a way back to one another.
